I was at Spar about 2 weeks ago to buy my weekly items. I saw that the spar ribs were on special for R69.99. I took a packet. When I got to the counter the lady told me the price has changed because it was on special over the weekend and not the monday. So I told her that the special price was still on so I will be purchasing it for that price. The following day we decided to braai the ribs. When the meat was cooked, something did not look right as it was flaking. I took the box and look at the expiry date. I expired the beginning of September already!!! I took it back to the shop, where I rudely was directed to the butchery manager. I asked him if it was the norm for spar to put all their old meat on special? He then offered me "cheetah" ribs which was a bit more expensive. As we picket up the other ribs, ALL of it was expired. It was just put back into the shelves again. I took Rump steak for the value of the ribs BUT NEVER will I ever buy from VC Spar again. It is pathetic that this is overlooked with such a no care attitude. You expect when you go to a shop that everything will be fresh. Where is your slogan freshness guaranteed?
