Dear Peter Cheales,

I am writing on behalf of my brother, George Daniels, who was injured while shopping in a Makro SA hyper-market on the 26th January, 2013, hit by a loaded Pallet Jack. George suffered injuries to his lower leg, foot and both shoulders. The company has accepted responsibility for the accident caused by a member of its staff and paid for the initial treatment, which did not even include the x-rays my brother needed and had later at Helen Joseph Hospital to which he went at his own cost, unable to drive. He has tried getting some compensation from the company for the pain and acute inconvenience he has suffered since, but to no avail. Instead, they demand bills from doctors who treated his injuries in order to base their compensation on these. George doesn't have Medical Aid, is retired and lives on a modest income. Every penny counts.
