Incorrect Balance Provided when settling Account

On the 21st November 2012 I went into the YDE store to settle my clothing account. When i got to the till I asked the lady at the desk for my settlement amount and it was quoted at being a figure of just over R1555.56. I then handed my debit card and settled the stated amount (well atleast i thought I had).
A few days ago I then recieved a call from the YDE headoffice and i was advised that my acount is in arrears and that i needed to settle an amount of just over R240. Due to the fact that both the supervisor and the call centre agent could not provide answers for where the figure that was given in-store came from, I then requested a written confirmation (via email) from the Head office justifying the due amount and this was agreed to by the supervisor. Three days after the conversation I still haven't recieved the agreed email and I am concerned that this could affect my credit rating.
I a now forced to believe that there have been instances where I am over charged and paying way over the owed amounts in the lst few years and seek clarity on the matter. this has left me with a bitter taste in my mouth and I now wish to close the account immediately.
