Promotional items can't be reverved

I went to total sports to see what was on sale when i saw a NIKE CAPRI LEATHER BLUE/WHITE size 7 for my two year old son on the floor, the price was marked down to R219.00. I spoke to one lady and told her I needed to fetch my wallet to purchase the shoe. when I came back in about twenty minutes, I was told the shoe had been reserved for another customer. I left and decided to call the store to speak to a manager and was told that the manager had left already.

How can i find an item on the floor and when i want to purchase the item, I am told it has been been kept for somebody else. Also, how can i ask to speak to a manager and be told he/she has left already, is there no one else of authority to speak to me, who is to deal with a complaint like mine if there is no manager present
