STORES REFUSES TO EXCHANGE GIFT ITEMS WITH TAGS

MY HUSBAND RECEIVED 2 ITEMS FROM 2 DIFFERENT PEOPLE, OF WHICH BOTH WAS CASH PURCHASES FROM TRUWORTHS. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE GIFT WAS RECEIVED (MAY 25TH) I WENT TO THE GATEWAY BRANCH AND ASKED IF THE ITEMS COULD BE EXCHANGED FOR EITHER AN ITEM OR VOUCHER. EVEN THOUGH ITEMS HAD TAGS ON, I WAS TOLD THAT THE ITEMS CANNOT BE EXCEPTED WITHOUT A RECEIPT. I THEN TRIED TO EXCHANGE THE ITEMS AT ANOTHER BRANCH - LA LUCIA. THE SAME RESPONSE, HOWEVER THE STORE ASSISTANT ASKED ME TO CONTACT THEIR CONTACT CENTRE AND LOG A COMPLAINT. WHICH I DID AND WAS PROVIDED A REFERENCE NUMBER AND WAS ADVISED THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED WITHIN 48 HOURS. AFTER A WEEK OF NO CONTACT, I CALLED THE CONTACT CENTRE AGAIN, ASKING FOR A FOLLOW UP, AND AS IT TURNED OUT, MY CELL NUMBER WAS INCORRECTLY CAPTURED, THEREFORE I WAS NOT CONTACTABLE. AFTER PROVIDING THE CORRECT NUMBER, I WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. A WEEK THEREAFTER - NO RESPONSE WAS RECEIVED. WHEN I CALLED BACK, I WAS TOLD THAT-my case is declined and closed. I am so frustrated and disgusted by this massive store's gift exchange policy. I dont understand what the problem is as the items to have tags. This is very upsetting.
