No refund

I bought a present, a Car chalk board, and was contacted by the parents to say that the board and one of the leg stands were missing. My brother bought an expensive item from them last week and on the slip it says that you can return it within 7 days, never mind the Consumer Act, and he went today to return it as he had bought the wrong item and they refused to accept it back. It was still brand new and unopened??? Worried about returning the damaged goods I bought and whether they will be happy to assist? Will update...
