Returns policy

I went to Jet in canal walk to return an item of clothing i bought a week ago. I was told that I cannot return the item as I did not have the card from which the purchase was made. Mind you I had the sale slip of the item I was returning. The cashier was not helpful at all and I was treated with bad customer service. Surely this is not the returns policy???
