Bad Quality need to keep my receipt?

Hi. I bought a pair of jeans from Zara and after wearing them a few days later they had 4 holes in them. I tried to return them, as I was very disappointed, but I was told by the manager on duty that because I didn't keep my receipt I could not get my money back!
