I purchased a couch from the Weylandts Fourways branch 6 years ago. Having paid R15, 000.00 for the leather couch, I fully expected it to last me a very long time. Over a year ago, the couch started peeling.
I brought this to the attention of the store manager who advised me that this is a common problem with the type of couch I bought (it's a bi-cast leather couch with a polyurethane coating). I asked why I wasn't told that this is a likely future problem when I purchased the item (as I would never have spent that much money on a couch that is expected to peel) and the response I received was "we weren't aware it would do that when we first started selling the couch".
When I forwarded the complaint to the Customer Care, this is the response I received:
"Bi-cast is leather, the hide is split into 2 and coated with a layer of polyurethane. With use (general wear and tear) the polyurethane coating may start to peel, this is not considered a product fault.
Regrettably, due to the age of your sofa, Weylandts is unable to offer you any redress..."
So R15000.00 for a couch that you can get 5-6 years use out of and no responsibility taken for a poor product! It looks awful!!
