I withdrew some money from ABSA Bank in Paarl Mall and received also an old two hundred rand note. I went to Checkers at Van der Lingenplein in Paarl to buy goods and at the till they did not want to take my two hundred rand note. I was standing there with a red face and they also did not want to scan the note. They called the supervisor, but she insisted that they do not take the two hundred notes anymore. This surely cannot be legal and I was treated very unfair. Luckily I had enough other money to pay, but is not the way to treat customers. Next time I will leave all my groceries on the till. I would like this matter to be taken further. There was an article in the Burger a few days ago about this and they said that the two hundred rand note is still legal.
