I purchased a Maxed 16" bicycle from the above branch on the 8/03/2013. Since that time, several parts of the bicycle have broken. I purchased the bicycle to be assembled as there were no technicians available. Upon returning the item today, I was told that there have been other bicycles returned due to fault. I was also told (by Thabo Mathlapi, the staff member in charge of bicycles) that only 2 out of 20 have been returned and that Maxed is an inferior item and that I was to expect this. As my son rides his bicycle outdoors, I explained this was a safety risk. I was told (by assistant manager Sandra Mashisi) that I could purchase a more expensive bike if I chose, there would be no other compensation for my inconvenience. When I spoke to the area manager (Daphne Parkins), I was told that there had in fact been no other complaints made, insinuating that Thabo Mathlapi was not telling the truth. I would be given no compensation of any kind as "this was not how she runs her business". There was no suggestion that the safety of the item should be looked into. I received a refund for the item and purchased a bicycle elsewhere.
