Trying to take advantage?

I Installed a tracker device into my car in April 2011.
I am now selling the car and want to cancel the subscription. They tell me that I am under 36 month contract and have to pay until April 2014 or pay a cancellation fee - which I have no idea how they calculated it, but it is absolutely ridiculous.
On my statements it says that the cost of the device (hardware) is R48, 74 per month. According to the Consumer Law, you can cancel a contract at anytime and only need to pay what is owed to the company: i.e. The actual product and not the service.
Why then are you trying to charge me so much?
Both the customer service consultants were also extremely rude over the phone.
