On 24 March 2012, 18 months ago, I bought a new DStv HD PVR2P for R1400. On 15 September 2013 there was suddenly an error message, BE1, on the screen. I took the decoder and smartcard to Multichoice Wonderpark, Pretoria for testing. I was told that the decoder was 'dead' and that it will be replaced at R510. Apparently a decoder needs maintenance like a motor vehicle (nobody could however tell me what that 'maintenance' was...). During my queueing time I saw at least 2 other customers who's decoders were also replaced.
I feel very unhappy about the fact that my decoder only lasted 18 months. When I bought the decoder I was never informed about the possibility of the PVR to fail for no apparent reason, within 18 months. Insurance was offered, but not at an affordable price..The cost of watching DStv is becoming extremely expensive. I feel that Multichoice should have been prepared to fix/replace my decoder at their cost. It seems like a money making scheme...
