LEAPFROG FAILURE TO RETURN DEPOSIT

I signed a lease with Leapfrog City Bowl. A while after signing and living in the premises I was informed that the agency had our deposits and that a new principal had taken over the franchise. We (tenants) submitted paperwork to prove we paid our deposits. This whole thing happened about 2 years ago. I recently vacated the premises and have not received my deposit back. I sent numerous emails and got no response. I called the agency and spoke to the agent responsible for my lease, and was told that the previous agency the money and it is out of their hands. In other words, I must now wait for the outcome of a court case before I can even find out whether or not my deposit will be returned.
Surely Leapfrog is responsible for the deposit? I handed it over to them as a brand, a company; not as an individual, principal agent or any anything else.
It has now been a month and 9 days and I have been told all I can do is wait. Is there any legal route I can take to get my deposit back?
