Buyers beware of Harcourts Estate Agents

As a first time purchaser I paid some very expensive school fees trusting Harcourts Estate Agents, the sellers & the attorney the seller choose to register the sale of the property I purchased in April 2011. It has taken 2 years & over R100k to rectify the issues. The entire experience was devastating, Harcourts' advertising & presentation of the property was misleading, they assisted the sellers hide significant defects and allowed the sellers to remove fixtures.

The property was sold as being secure but had a large well hidden gap in the perimeter wall & the security system didn't work properly. I had to move out & fumigate for beetles, have cupboards built to cover the gaps in the tiles after existing ones had been removed, fix wood rot that had been covered with thick paint and fit a stove as the one left in the house did not have a stove top only oven. My electrician would not work on the house until an A4 page of non-compliant aspects had been fixed, a plumber removed 5kgs of cement from the shower drain after the bathroom flooded & I had to move the non-compliant gas bottles. Harcourt didn't respond to my request to settle the matter & I can't afford legal action.
