Watch out for this scam called just sell properties.
Lienki du Plooy was our agent and I have never been ripped off as badly as by her. It started with lienki telling us we could move in immediately, only to be later told we can move in 7 days later than promised (by which we had already moved out of our old place). She insisted I signed multiple papers and after expressing my worries and refusing to sign any more papers she told me “are you going to sign or am I wasting my time” (see screenshot). Never have I ever had such a rude agent before. I was glad I was advised to take pictures before moving in as there were a few spots on the wall from previous tenants (see picture). After taking pictures before moving in and paying 20k rand deposit, I decided to move out 3 months later as the room wasn’t finished and the concrete wall in my apartment in IQ Brooklyn gave me health issues. Not something just sell properties could do anything about but the move out inspection was outrageous. Lienki showed up 30 minutes late for the inspection, didn’t bring a black pen (files legally need to be signed with a black pen), spend most of the time trying to sell her art works to me and my attorney (who I felt forced to bring). After the move out inspection, I ended up being charged over 5k rand for the two spots on the wall, which was already there before moving in (which I could proof with move in inspection pictures), but just sell properties refused to pay back the money. I asked for multiple quotes to make sure they did indeed painted over it and to make sure I would not overpay for a painter. They never came back to me and decided to just charge me 3, 3k for the painting of the 1 wall. I asked for the pop with the 3, 3k that I had to pay them, only to receive a slip from a painter that works within just sell properties, proofing that I paid justsell properties 3, 3k for painting the one wall rather than an outside party. I never heard anything further and they never gave back my money (see picture).
All in all it was very clear that Lienki tried to abuse the fact that I am a Dutch student studying in Pretoria for a year. Her supervisor Hetta was of no help either and was mainly very rude to me. They knew very well she was ripping me off and I will definitely take this experience home to my homecountry to advise everyone not to go to South Africa. If I could give a minus rating, I would. If I would have more time in South Africa to take them to court, I would. Stay away from them.
