I'm in the process of emigrating & moved out of my house Feb '12.
I moved out of my house & put my stuff in storage as my partner moved before me to settle & find perm employment before I follow & we move all our stuff.
When I went to the storage this week as I am now ready to move, I found that my key does not work. I went to the gentleman that lives on the premises & he told me they had to break the lock as the place was flooded.
I walked into a storage room that was once neatly packed, to a total mess, boxes broken (I'm assuming due to the water damage) I opened my zip bag to see my leather shoes moulded. I also found someone else's TV and computer in the storage that I am paying for.
It's very clear in the contract that the Landlord shall not accept any liability.
But I would like to point out clause 7.2 "cause or event beyond the REASONABLE control of the Landlord"...
Don't you think that a simple call from Xtra Space to advise that the unit was flooded & that water could damage my goods. Would I like to make any alternative arrangements, or another unit?
I'm expected to re-pack everything by myself in storage, buy the boxes, claim from my insurance and continue paying
