We had moved from PE to Pretoria on 29 March 2013. Not having a house yet, our household contents were put in storage by Stuttafords with a sub-contractor named Magna-Thompson. After 3 months in storage, the goods were delivered to our house by MT, in a terrible state.
Some boxes had severe water damage, so that the boxes would start to break apart. Also physical damage to wooden furniture including 4-poster bed, TV-cabinet, bookshelves, piano stool and desktop PC.
SVL advised me to get quotes for all the repairs, which I did. And now after 2 months, they go and decline all accountability!! Even without transit insurance, surely a removal company must ensure that goods don't stand in water for 3 months!!! And then they have the audacity to say they contract out of liability, which basically means their contractors can stuff up your belongings and get away with it!!
So now we're sitting with R16, 000.00 worth of damaged goods and no-one willing to step up and take the blame! Pathetic. After shouting like a banshee, only then did they agree to pay out 8k, which is not even enough to fix my computer! And what about the rest of the damages!?!? Pathetic!
