NEW HOUSE CONDEMNED BY NHBRC DURING CONSTRUCTION

Gerrit Brandow (Director of Central Developments Property Group or CDP) on handover proudly explained that UNSKILLED labour was used to build my retirement home in Douglasdale marketed for around R1.5 million. This is NOT what you want to hear when dealing with your LIFE SAVINGS. There was NO SUPERVISION observed during construction, which explains why the house was condemned by the NHBRC and the very long list of 60 snags, defects and retention items including ill-fitting windows, around 80% of the tiles are loose/cracked, facebrick discolouration, inferior plumbing fittings, garage door that won't close, missing grab rails for the elderly etc. It has been over 9 months since we submitted our retention list to CDP and following months of inaction/empty promises, CDP through Elzette Lombard (HOA Director) has instead instructed us to lodge a complaint with the NHBRC.

We find this highly irregular as not only are they in breach, but potentially victimising many elderly persons (in Douglasdale and other of their retirement villages) being bullied into accepting a substandard product that doesn't cater for the needs of the elderly, as marketed by them eg inaccessible entrances etc.
