This is how we treat law abiding citizens

My power was disconnected on Monday 27 Jan. No warning. I have had billing problems with them for more than a year. More than a year I have tried to put a stop to them trying to retrieve money from a bank account that has been closed. To no avail. Last month I received a bill for R1299. I went and paid R3500. A miss calculation on my part. This month i received a bill stating that there is an amount of R700 odd rand that was brought over.
Including that the new bill came to R4006. Stated at the bottom of the bill was amount due R4006. Due date 30/1/2014. No where was it stated that I should rush in and pay the R700 odd rand or my power will be cut. On Tuesday morning first thing I went to the offices to settle my account. I asked when i could expect my power to be reconnected. The answer 48 hours. Up to now that has not happened. I could not get through to them on the phone so I send an email. The response was that I was told 48 hours and that is 4 days. Obviously someone are unable to count.
What are one to do. It is the first time this has happened to me. My account is always paid on time.
What bugs me most is that my Fridge and freezer has defrosted. The food will be spoiled.
