South African Police Service
SAPS now charges a fee for taking fingerprints!

I went in to the Durban North SAPS on 22 November 2013 to take my fingerprints. I require this as part of the screening process for a job. I was issued a letter to hand over to the SAPS which specified that fingerprints are required and that THERE IS NO CHARGE for this service. Upon arrival at 9am at the SAPS I was told that the lady who does this is "out" and I could wait 10 minutes for her. An hour later, this SAPS official strolls in with her Checkers shopping bags and tries to go unnoticed. Unsure if she was the right person, i asked another SAPS official where the fingerprint official was and he directed me to this ladies office. I went to her and explained that I needed fingerprints taken for employment, and pointed out that I waited over an hour. She got extremely upset and rudely told me that she is busy with finances. I never knew prior to this that shopping at Checkers was part of Finances in her job description but I was willing to ignore that if I could get my fingerprints done.
After fingerprints were taken and she asked me to pay R59. After a lengthy debate I paid her. The company later told me that in all thier history of recruitment NO ONE ever paid for this!
