Even if your tax is paid by your company and you do not owe SARS outstanding tax money they will find a way of getting some out of you. You can go to them explain, beg, cry but IT88 penalties you will pay. They will not notify you about the penalty till it is being deducted from your salary and you found out about it after the fact. You do as they say but nothing will change the outcome. We try to contact you they say, but you stay in the same place for more than 20 years and they only found your address to send you a notice of the penalty they have received. Before that nothing. You can try and explain, but the staff are not interested in why what or where. They have your tax money, paid over monthly from the employer and whoopi another few thousand extra. Great system if you are employed by Government. Thank you SARS for making me poorer than I am already and making me work more shifts, to pay more tax, just to survive and to enrich the Goverment.
