Workers were given a contract to work as field agents for 4 months on the Joburg 96/97 housing subsidies campaign for region D, implemented by mayor Parks Tau which started on 3 June 2013. Now the problem started after there was no remuneration for the field agents after working a whole month. When the head of housing, Mr Themba Nkosi was approached about this problem, he promised the workers that they will get paid by the 8th of the following month, which again didnt happen. So the workers were told by Mr Nkosi that they can stop working until this issue has been resolved. Indeed they stopped, but the issue has never been resolved since. Last week there was a meeting held at the Orlando Hall on the 13th of August and the same Mr Nkosi promised workers that they will be paid no later than that Friday 16 August 2013. Which again didnt happen so this morning, 19th Aug i called the region D offices (011 933 2257) hoping to find out why this issue hadnt been resolved and i was referred to call Nthatisi on 011 407 7354 which was unsuccessful because the phones just rang without being attended to.
