I received notice in the mail yesterday to collect a registered item at the post office, the SAPO collection notice was only mailed out to me on the 17th of July. It was a speeding fine from an offence from mid May and the back of the fine says date of posting was 4th of June (so a month and a half gap between date on fine and date SAPO sent me notice).
I am trying to pay the amount (at Payfine and ABSA) but it is not allowing the discounted amount which is unfair as in my view although the fine says mailed on 4/6/13 the post office registered mail item date was only 17/07/13 so I am well within the date of 32 days to pay the discounted amount.
None of the AARTO emails work, the call center IVR just dies after answering and the local licencing office just does not answer their phone.
I am guilty of speeding and want to pay my fine but this process does not make it easy at all yet the cops are happy to harras you at a roadblock for not paying!!! If your process is going to be so useless why even bother to give a discount - which was just doubling of the amounts anyway then offering 50% which apparently never apply as the dates expire before you get the fine
