My father passed away in 2021 and Mr Neville Hornsby contacted us in regard to getting a repossessed property for my mother and myself. He also then offered his assistance with our debts. He was in and out of our lives under the pretense of giving us a hand, but just took advantage of our grief and vulnerability.
In March 2021 my mother paid Mr Hornsby a total of R47 500 as a deposit for a so- called repossessed house in Kuilsriver, he kept saying he would bring the paperwork and perhaps in hindsight we should have been more aware and asked before the paperwork before we sent the money, however at this time we were in a very vulnerable position as we were grieving and also trusted Mr Hornsby as we have done business with him before.
He advised us that it would take some time for the deal to go through as it was a repossessed property and would take a bit longer than a normal sale, which we understood and agreed to. We then paid him another R2500 for a cellc contract that had been handed over to the lawyers which he said he would settle and it has been 2 years and still nothing has come of it. Last year August, we requested to cancel the deal with the repossessed house as nothing was moving forward and he was not offering us any updates on the timelines or when we would receive the paperwork to seal the deal with the repossessed house. He confirmed that the money would be paid into our accounts several times and at this point he doesn't even respond to texts or calls, he just ignores us completely while he has more than R50000 that does not belong to him.
At this point my mom and I are not even sure what to do as we are in a desperate situation of almost getting evicted and having to just scrape by and also face being blacklisted due to what this man has promised and lied about. We have tried to talk to him and just ask him to keep us updated with the process or at least communicate what is going on to no avail. Would you please kindly assist us on how we can move forward here or what the procedure is for a case of this nature.
