My grand mother is 77 years old and has lost her TV License. She had not been paying her license for a few months and was badgered with calls from the SABC to enquire on her account. She told them it was lost adn requested a Pensioners License. She was told that she would have to pay the full penalty of R1832.52 in full before they can help her.
She was also informed that she would have to go to the SABC in johannesburg to apply for a new license. My grand mother stays in Rustenburg in the rural village of Molatedi, they live on pre-paid electricity and have no access to shops or ATMS, only if they travel 2 hours into main town (Rustenburg).
SABC were cruel and gave little compassion to my grandmother. They could have reduced tghe fee and arranged a license for her in their Rustenburg branch. Treating pensioners in such a manner is disgusting to say the least! Where is the spirit of UBUNTU???
