My cat developed an abscess and managed to open it, resulting in an open wound. My regular vet was closed and since this was a standard procedure I took him to Bakenkop Animal Clinic, Centurion. The reception ladies were very friendly and I was taken through to the Doctors room. The Doctor was very young and didn't seem very interested in my feral cat's situation. With barely any inspections she told me that my cat would be operated on and quoted me R3 000, as well as a R500 consultation fee. Since we live on a small holding, we have a vast amount of pets and this is not the 1st time I've seen an abscess of this nature. I've seen many treatments for this condition that are far easier and less expensive to treat than operating. I have never been so digusted in the manner in which a supposedly animal loving Vet treated my cat. She was negligent and even after I said that R3500 would be too much for this procedure she refused to help me. I told her to give my cat antibiotics and clean the wound. I then left after paying R500 for a consultation and R400 for 1 antibiotic. I have since taken my cat to my regular vet and it appears my cat was ill treated.
