Jim Green used to make reliable hiking boots locally. Sadly, their quality has deteriorated to the point where their boots are no longer suitable for anything but the lightest wear.
On my last pair, one of the lacing studs came out soon after purchase. Next the steel shank worked loose, puncturing the sole. I sent the boots back to be sorted out - they came back with new soles but with nothing done to the stud. I was charged for the new sole. On the very next hike I did, the sole came off, leaving me hobbling 20km from civilisation. I sent the boots back to be repaired - the sole was attached but nothing was done to the stud. Not that the sole really helped anyway, since it came off again on the very next hike I did.
Jim Green is refusing to do anything about this. According to them, the boots have a 6 month guarantee, and anything that happens to them outside of that period is your problem. According to them, the boots have to be thrown away.
I thought this might have been an isolated incident, but everyone I've spoken to about this agrees Jim Green is no longer a durable boot. Soles come off, stiching isn't durable. Don't buy these, you're better off barefoot!
