I recently sent an application letter with a Cheque to the HPCP to the UK. The Post Office agent at Morningside informed me that registered mail would be best option. I confirmed that the letter would be closely tracked. She also verified that my letter posted on 18 December would reach it's destination in the UK on 3 January 2013. She also verified that this option would be safe.
I have checked the SAPO Track and Trace and verified with the post office call centre that the letter left for the UK. They informed me that I must follow-up with Royal mail on it's progress. The Royal Mail informed me that the letter on 7 January never reached the UK. The Post Office redirected me to the JHB International Mail room as they can not verify that it left South-Africa. None of the call centre numbers answer calls.
There is uncertainty with FNB whether the cheque was cashed.
The Post Office needs to take calls to deal with queries as their not taking responsibility for their services.
