Ok, for those living in Johannesburg before they call in a fridge technician, repair and maintenance person, please make sure that your fridge is actually faulty. I called in a fridge repair technician in September to repair a Samsung fridge which was no longer cooling down on the fridge side, but the freezer was fine. I used the [URL Removed] website and they sub-contracted the job to a guy called Emmanuel who came in and told me I needed a new thermostat and it'd cost R950. He said that he had it on him and he'd replace the faulty one. He then proceeded to open the area where the thermostat was. He then poured boiling hot water onto the area, presumably to defrost it. I then left him for a short while and when I came back saw he had already proceeded to back the cover plates for the area he was working on. I asked him if it was now fine and he said he had replaced the thermostat. I paid him and he left. Recently the fridge began doing the same thing and so I did some research online only to learn that the only problem was of ice build up. So in future do not let these JHB quote you for something they purport to do, but you can do yourself.
