Damaged parcel

Upon me going to fetch my parcel after numerous discussions via the phone and email if the parcel is ready for collection as I need to travel from Pretoria to collect it. I was shown away saying they are unable to find it.
I had to return two days later when they could locate it just to find to my horror that the box is totally damaged and refused acceptance of the parcel in such a condition. I was told that "They can not be expected to be held responsible for the condition of the parcels and if I refuse to take it they will just keep it and no one would benefit from that". But it would be my choice, I can take it or leave it, it would not matter to them one bit.

Therefore in fear of not even having the damaged parcel I took the parcel upon contest and immediately took pictures of what the parcel looked like when I returned home as they refused me to take pictures at their offices and threatened to have me removed forcefully if I took pictures of the parcel on their premises.

I would like to enquire who will be liable for the damages as a shipping and handling fee of over R2000 was paid for this parcel to ensure its safe arrival as it is a rare collectors piece
