Incorrect Cell Numbe

Nearly a year ago I acquired a new cell phone from Vodacom. It became apparent that the number had previously been used by a lady named Rose an Avon consultant who was clearly indebted to Avon. I continually get texts demanding payment and also phone calls. I have tried to contact the credit centre on numerous occasions to have my number removed with no avail. Please can someone assist!
