I called experian a while ago when i was trying to apply for a home loan and i was told i dont qualify because i have bad credit record. i was surprised, i applied again with another bank and same result, this time the Nedbank agent gave me details he could see from his side to help me understand why the record was that way. I was shocked my report showed i have an exposure of over R32 000, i dont even earn that much money.
After further investigations i realised that experian keeps outdated information on their system. I had at least five accounts that were no longer active, but their system still showed them as active. I called them and they told me that they rely on infomation they receive, but as a measure of good governance, shouldnt you have a system that automatically raises a flag if you dont receive information on an account in three months, let alone 3years.
I went to to request a report, then they email me a 2 pager with zero information, only my exposure and rating. the email says i must confirm my adress etc, but it doesnt tell you how. i reply to that email with that information but its no use. however companies can access your full record so easily, double standards
