In February this year we handed our solid Maple kitchen doors to Mr Wytze Voerman of Wood Strippers of Wetton Cape Town to strip the old varnish from the doors. On receiving the doors back from Woodstrippers we were shocked to see their condition. The doors were stained, warped and the individual boards that made up the doors had separated leaving gaps in the doors. Opinions from three furniture manufacturers confirmed the doors were irrepairable. Mr Voerman admitted that things had gone wrong during the stripping and three of his staff had been put on disciplinary hearing. Despite his comments and our findings Mr Voerman insisted he had fulfilled his work and demanded payment of R4490, 00 for the work he had done. I then received a letter from his attorneys demanding that I pay his account within three days. I then handed the matter to my attorneys who wrote demanding damages of R36 958.00 . This was subsequently followed by a request from Wood Strippers that I should obtain two quotations for replacing the damaged doors which i did on 7 May 2013. Since then I have heard nothing further.
