Refusing to take valed bank notes from customers

My wife and mother in law visited the butcher to buy some meat. When they need to pay, they were informed that the butcher do not accept the older notes for payment.

They left the butcher with his cat meat as they had no other money.

Directly there after they passed the nearest ABSA branch and enquired about this. They were informed that it all banks still receive these notes as the government have not instructed any one to withdraw the older notes.

It is extremely frustrating that you can not get a service for the money in your hand. Why do service providers have this attitude against their customers.

It is not acceptable and something has to be done regarding this.
