I rented a flat from a private landlord and unfortunately had to move, before my lease expired, my terms of the lease were to serve 1 months' notice before going in order to get my deposit back.
As I could not serve the months' notice I informed my previous land lord that I would get my friend to take over my lease so that there is no loss of income. He agreed to this and indeed in January my friend moved in with no hassles. i then received a statement saying i owe R1403 in rates, i have so far paid R500, today i received summons from the above lawyers saying i now owe R10 465... I have informed the rental and housing tribunal, this guy and i have emails from him as proof that i dnt owe him no rent. he went as far to even to lawyers and thinks im scared becoz of this, i am taking it to the highest court if i have to, he is a chancer.
