Melissa (Mel) Govender baits people on Gumtree claiming she is Cape Town based and is a Joomla website expert developer. She quoted me around R7000 to do the work I wanted, claiming it could be done in a week.
She then incentivised me with a 15% discount to pay her the full amount by EFT into her FNB bank account in George. She could not meet me as she was based in George despite advertising she was in Cape Town. She was paid the amount and never delivered one thing to me. Her emails were full of excuses and delays and then she stopped making contact. She was never contactable and never responded to emails sent nor did she answer the 2 cell phone numbers listed.
Six months have now passed and I have nothing from her, but did spot another man who got conned by her and complained on hellopeter. In hindsight whatever she said she could do in fact could not have been done, nor do web developers ask for full payment. Her website does not list addresses, landlines. Other links to her do not work and she clearly never wants to meet her clients.
I have worked with the police on this case now and a warrant for her arrest has been issued with a criminal charge. Watch out.
