In January my psychiatrist subscribed medication for my bi-polar condition. Fedhealth rejected the Abilify due to the price as I was on to low an plan option (R4 600 per month). The approved an alternative (cost R500) made me very sick & after 3 days I had terrible side effects - stiff muscles, leg spasm, confusion, dizziness, no co-ordination, insomnia and flu like symptoms. Had to stop meds immediately. Dr motivated request for Ability again and was rejected again however another type was approved. Again side effect, vomiting, could not eat, dizziness body spasm & aches. It was a nightmare & had to stop after only 3 days. It took my body more than a month to recover. There is no alternative left but Abilify. Doctor motivated again, rejected again. HOWEVER Fedhealth is prepared to pay R500 for medication that does not work, but NOT prepared to pay R500 towards the correct meds (Abilify R1080) - I will gladly pay the balance as a co- payment. This does not make sense. Is the clients well being not important?
