I went to Torga Optical last year, October, because my far vision was slipping. The optometrist there prescribed me glasses FOR READING, and said my far sight prescription is too small. I requested two sets of glasses, one for reading as suggested by the optometrist and one for far sight as originally requested, however small the prescription. I received my glasses a week later and the ones for far sight really made a difference. I saw no difference with the reading glasses (as I never had a problem). But Torga insisted that I was straining my eyes without reading glasses. So I started using the reading glasses too, whenever working on the PC and reading.
Now, 6 months down the line my far vision starts slipping again. I make an appointment at Visiomed in Northcliff. The optometrist tests my eyes and requests to see both my glasses. She immediately tells me to stop using the reading glasses as I am far-sighted and DO NOT NEED THEM, which is what I thought. She however had to have new glasses made for my far vision, which had slipped possibly due to me using reading glasses wrongfully prescribed by Torga. I paid R3000 for glasses I did not need.
