Debiting my account despite cancelling my contract

I signed up for the gym while we were on holiday in South Africa for 2 months. I enquired about signing up for 2 months and the sales assistant Zanende explained we should sign up for a student contract and then cancel after the first month which we did and contacted the gym and paid the cancellation fees. But we are still getting debited every month. We were obviously scammed into a longer term contract and then told we could cancel it which we did but are still being billed
