I am an osteoporosis sufferer and my spine is under strain. I am in constant pain and last year had to have a vertebra plasty as I cannot have normal surgery as my spine will crumble and will not hold the screws. Medshield refused to pay for this and said if I were to have a bridge or cage inserted as per normal procedure they would pay. We explained with numerous motivations from physicians and neuro surgeons that in my case this was not possible due to the osteoporosis. They ignored this and just said no. My pain has worsened to the extent now that virtually every day I am compromised. Last week a neuro surgeon wanted to do a rhizotomy to deaden all the nerve ends in the cervical area as my headaches are the result of these vertebrae degenerating. They have refused to pay for this again. We are pensioners and just cannot afford to pay for this. I need help desperately We had to pay ourselves for the original vertebra plasty which cost R40 000 .
We need someone to intervene please!!!
