As a community service dr, I know that private hospitals can actually be shiny death traps to patients attending there
My brother went to Milnerton Medi-Clinic with stomach pain, &was misdiagnosed as gastritis, after I personally advised the doctor to rule out an appendicitis in a male of his age. She sent him home.
I pleaded for her to do inflammatory markers-we had to phone the hospital to find out these were raised. They did not contact us as legally this responsibility should be on them. After a short stay he was discharged again.
A MONTH later, he re-presented with a BURST appendix. Luckily he was fine after the operation, but such a diagnosis carries co-morbidity, and an increased risk of adhesions which may trouble him later in life.
When next he attended for a carbuncle he was sent away on an antibiotic course after being charged R200. We went to a GP to get it incised and drained.
Finally, the accounts department - after phoning me to say our account was outstanding-I asked what the error code for medical aid submission was & they told me funds were exhausted-when in actual fact they had used the wrong member & dependent codes-dishonesty!
Shame on you, Milnerton MediClinic
