Discovery Health
Discovery non-payment

I had a ACL repair done on my right knee at the beginning of August last year and as part of the surgery my surgeon fitted me with a knee brace that restricted my movement to prevent the risk of the screws pulling out and having to redo the operation. This brace was fitted towards the end of the surgery before I had woken up and as a result I presumed this would form part and parcel of the surgery.

A month later I received a bill of R3000 for the knee brace. I got in contact with the supplier and informed them that I would submit the claim to Discovery as they should be dealing with it. I was then told by Discovery that the knee brace would come out of my savings account (of which I had R200 due to the other costs of the knee injury). I spend the better part of a month trying to speak to someone other than a call centre agent, someone who could look past the generic, scripted responses, with very little success.

I eventually managed to get through to someone who said they would request a review based on my and my surgeons belief that this brace formed part of the operation. I had two motivations sent through from the surgeon all of which have been lost and the review not done.
