I took my son (age 6) to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon for a lump on his knee. I first took him to a normal GP who referred me to the specialist as it is a delicate situation. The Orthopedic Surgeon diagnosed a Baker's Cyst. Surgery are scheduled for August. The specialist spend 40minutes examining my boy. She examined his whole body. I paid the doctor direct the amount of R1600. Discovery only refunded me R300 even though it was an extended, specialist appointment, stated on the claim.
I don't understand why. It is not that the money was spend on something other than medical. Why can't it be paid from my savings? Discovery are willing to pay vitamins and over the counter medicine for my family in full, but not a specialist appointment? I am paying about R6000 per month on medical installment, but when I need a specialist I have to pay another R1300 from my pocket?
We've been with Discovery for 15 years.
