I am a member of Discovery Health Medical Aid. In August this year I had a fall and hurt my foot and knee. I went to Olivedale Clinic who carried out x-rays and called in an Orthopaedic surgeon, I had broken four bones in my right foot. The Surgeon suggested I be admitted for further tests but I requested a possible out patient option. He put me in a Moonboot and a leg brace, I had also torn the ligaments in my left knee. He agreed to let me go on condition I return in one week to make sure the breaks were staying aligned.
Discovery rejected all x-rays and the treatment at the Emergency room but did pay the Surgeon. Apparently he was paid from my medical benefits but they would not pay the rest because my benefits had run dry.
It took two weeks of phone calls to Discovery before they graced me with a call back. The insist because I was not admitted they will pay6 nothing from my Hospital Plan. Are the lunatics running the asylum if I had been admitted it would cost a lot more than being treated as an outpatient but this they seem to think is the way to go. Why do I have Medical Aid if they will not pay for an Emergency?
