Medical aid said both retainers not necessary

My child is having orthodontic treatment started in April 2011-January 2013. Now the braces came off. The medical aid only wants to pay the retainer that is loose although the orthodontist mentioned she needs a fix one as well because a tooth was extracted and the dentist is afraid that the "teeth" may move if this fix one is not fitted. R6045.00 is my yearly limited for orthodontic. Know i was told by the medical aid that this was a unusual
request and they do no want to pay it out of the R6045.00 but out of my savings. The dentist sent a motivation that this is necessary due to the above factors. I also contaced one of my child friends mother. Her child also has fixed retainer as well. She was with a other orthodontist Dr Slabbert. I will go to more orthodontist and will ask their procedures and if this procedure is unusual. Why must i pay out of my savings if this is necessary reasons stated by the dentist and the amount for orthodontic is R6045.00 per year. I never had any problems in the past. I just want to know if my request is unfair. Thanks a lot. I have the motovation letter from the dentist. This was send to the medical aid as well stating why this must be done.
