I'm on the KeyCare Plus Scheme and I recently went to the GP who was on the KeyCare list. He referred me to a dermatologist for a histology as he suspects I have Melanoma and the infected area is on an exposed part of the body. I'm waiting for an authorization number but was declined because Discovery is also waiting for... a histology before they can approve this??? I phoned Discovery again to confirm that they did cover a histology but they again stated were waiting for my doctor to inform them that I needed one.
According to a post made by a Discovery staff member, made on the 5 September 2013,
"Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs) is a set of minimum benefits that, by law, must be provided to all medical scheme members. The cover it gives includes the diagnosis, treatment and cost of ongoing care for a list of conditions. The list of conditions is defined in the Medical Schemes Act 131 of 1998. "
As you will note, it clearly states "The cover INCLUDES DIAGNOSIS". I'm quite sure a histology is part of diagnosis.
