I have now been a member for a 4 year period, this year Bankmed has put through numerous plan changes, yes communicated to members, not all of it, and very confusing. I had 2 operations done in the month of September, on the 7th September 2013, went to Umhlanga Hospital, which is on th e DSP list, phoned in for a pre autorisation, Bankmed said it was fine and I think they said, it was 100% or 125% coverered above themedical aid scheme rate. The second operation was to remove my tonsils, again found a hospital on the DSP list, went through with a specialist who practises at Olivedale hospital, phoned Bankmed and they said it was approved, and the would pay up to 125% of scheme rate. In both instances, a co payment of R500 was due from my side and payable to the hospital. Why does bank med pre auth. consultants not inform members that there is a list of DSP doctors as well?? I think Bankmed is extremely ridiculous, and these rule changes are unaccpetable, and really needs to be revised. I now have hige hospital bills!! And guess what, there are no ENT specialists on the West Rand, now one is expected to go out of their areas for planned procedures.
