Discovery Health
Medical expenses dating back to October 2010

At the end of August 2013, I inquired as to when Discovery will be paying a certain claim which we had submitted at the beginning of August 2013. The person who took my call advised me that I still owed Discovery an amount of R2320.51. The initial amount was R3714.55. This was due to a hospital procedure for my husband in 2010 who was receiving bladder cancer treatment at the time. We had obtained all the required authorizations. The Pretoria Urology Hospital had incorrectly submitted the claim under my initials (being the main member, I presume) and some person in the claims department processed this claim NOT from the hospital benefit BUT from daily savings. Rather than rejecting the claim they Discovery, in their WISDOM went ahead and paid. Now they want me to repay these funds. If the person processing the claim had any common sense they would have simply rejected the claim and returned same to hospital. I was NEVER notified of this matter until last month. They made 1 attempt to call me at home but received no answer. They have my cell phone details but never bothered to call me on my cell phone. Well, they can sue me, I will not pay them back. They are at fault, not me.
