My husband needs to have full extractions of his teeth and due to his health history (2001 - Heart Attack & Stroke) the maxillo surgeon Dr Singh (City Park Hospital) recommends the procedure be done in hospital under general anaesthetic - in a controlled environment due to possibility of excessive bleeding and exposed sinus tract - which in itself is dangerous. My husband is 72, and he has chronic blood pressure. He is on Keycare Plus but this does not cover in-hospital dentistry.
Discovery requested 'motivation letters' which we have supplied from Dr Singh and Dr Engela the anaesthetist. They clearly explain the risks involved if the procedure is done in a dentist's chair with a local anaesthetic. Discovery have turned down all our requests and we do not know who to turn to next as my husband only has a small pension and we can't afford the costs involved.
